We recognize the needs the University continues to have in attracting funding, especially scholarship funding. One of the opportunities we saw was to help develop the next generation of leaders in education.

College of Letters and Science

Make a Gift to the College of Letters & ScienceThe College of Letters and Science is the heart of UW-Madison. The largest college in the university, we enroll over half of UW-Madison students and also provide the foundation courses in science, math, languages and literature for all undergraduate programs across campus. Our 21,000 students, 3,000 faculty and staff, and 140,000 living alumni form a tradition of liberal arts excellence and achievement that dates back over 100 years.

Letters and Science is where a UW-Madison education begins and matures; where ambitions and goals are shaped; and where critical thinkers are challenged and future leaders are trained. To ensure that our students emerge from the College with the knowledge, skills and experiences they will need to thrive in the global workplace and community, we have established two priorities:
  • To strengthen undergraduate education by expanding learning opportunities both in and outside the classroom, and by increasing scholarship support so that all students can take advantage of these opportunities
  • To build on our research pre-eminence by protecting our status as one of the world’s leading research universities and the College’s role as the UW-Madison’s largest research unit. We can accomplish this by recruiting and retaining top faculty in all fields and by exposing students to these leading scholars, so that students come to experience first-hand how knowledge is created.
