The solid foundation I received at UW has opened many doors for me. I think it is important to give while you are ‘alive and taking nourishment,’ and it will be such a joy to see the new building on its completion.

Support for Non-traditional Students

A large national demand for teachers is reliably predicted for the next decade, particularly in areas such as science, math and special education. One of the best approaches to ensuring that every classroom has a well-prepared teacher lies in programs for returning adult students.

Often, mid-career adults with quality preparation and experience in subject matter are seeking more meaningful work and look toward teaching. The School of Education has proposed an alternative certification program for such people, drawing from a pool that includes a high proportion of minority students. While the state is being asked to provide the base budget for this program, private support could make it attractive and affordable to the best prospective students.
